About The Role

As a Service Engineer, you will work from a home office and cover the UK with occasional travel to Ireland when needed. Other responsibilities include:

  • Due to the complex nature of the equipment you will typically attend 2-5 customer visits per week.
  • Operating from a home office and visiting customers to complete new equipment installations, commissioning and basic operator training to groups of 2-3. Some of the more advanced equipment can take up to 2-3 days to complete an installation.
  • Visiting major industry (15%) and academia (85%) clients. As you develop your skills in other product areas this ratio will change and also include some albeit limited hospital clients.
  • Decommissioning equipment for site relocations.
  • Conducting routine service and calibration work, alongside more reactive maintenance, including diagnosis, fault finding and problem resolution.
  • Working on equipment including both hardware and software ranging from £100K to £2m in value.
  • Completing service visit reports.
  • Working to a 2+ week service schedule.
  • Initial training will include shadowing and supporting experienced engineers in the field.

About You

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 2+ years of service engineering experience (field-based preferably) and have broad mechanical and electrical exposure. My client is willing to consider site-based Technicians wishing to make the transition into the field should they possess some relatable instrument experience.

You must have experience working on complex equipment, which could include but is not limited to, Analytical Instruments, Optical Microscopes, Vision Inspection, Laser Deposition, Photonics, Sample Preparation, Electron Microscopes, Vacuum Pumps, SEM, TEM, High Voltage Systems (up to 300KV), Stepper Motors, Optics, Spectrometers, UHV Systems, Motion Control Technology, X-Ray Systems, XRF, XRD, CT Systems, Micro CT Systems, MRI Scanners, Particle Accelerators, Particle Analysis machines or similar.

We are also open to former RAF / Military engineers wishing to make the transition to the private sector if they are adaptable, with a drive to develop their skills and self-learn.

A strong communicator with a priority on great customer service is essential.

Related engineering education including HNC, HND, Degree, or an Apprenticeships is essential as is a logical and methodical approach to fault finding and the flexibility to travel within the UK (40% of your time away from home – 2 nights per week on average).

A UK driving license is essential, as is the right to work in the UK. My client doesn’t offer sponsorship.
