About The Role

Operating in a player manager capacity you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing European sales team (under 10 staff).
  • Taking ownership of the European commercial strategy, driving sustainable revenue growth and delivering ambitious sales targets across the region.
  • Maintaining personal responsibility for a German sales territory, combining strategic leadership with hands-on business development and key account management.
  • Developing territory plans, set individual sales objectives and monitor team performance through regular coaching, forecasting and performance reviews.
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities across a range of industrial (75%) and academic (25%) customers, with a strong emphasis on winning new accounts.
  • Build long-term relationships with senior decision-makers including Directors, Laboratory Managers, R&D Managers and Technical Specialists.
  • Working closely with customers to understand their applications and recommend tailored analytical systems that address their needs.
  • Partnering with internal applications, service and technical support teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience throughout the sales process.
  • Accompanying members of the sales team on customer visits, providing coaching, commercial guidance and support on strategic opportunities.
  • Managing and developing a healthy sales pipeline, producing accurate forecasts and ensuring sales activity aligns with business objectives.
  • Representing the company at industry exhibitions, conferences and events.
  • Supporting the ongoing evolution of the sales organisation by helping to embed best practice and drive a high-performance commercial culture.

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll be an accomplished sales leader with a proven track record of delivering growth within the scientific instrumentation or laboratory equipment sector.

You’ll enjoy leading and developing people but still have the drive and enthusiasm to win business yourself. Comfortable operating in a player-manager capacity, you’ll thrive on balancing strategic leadership with hands-on customer engagement.

You’ll be commercially astute, highly organised and confident influencing senior stakeholders across both industrial and academic markets. Above all, you’ll be someone who leads by example, embraces change and enjoys building high-performing teams within a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.

You will also bring:

  • A strong track record of delivering new business growth alongside managing strategic customer relationships. (Minimum of 6 years related sales experience).
  • A Diploma, Degree or related in a hard science discipline (Physics, Chemistry etc).
  • Experience selling complex analytical instruments and familiar with £100K+ transactions in areas such as Microscopy, Spectroscopy, XPS, XRF, XRD, SEM, TEM, CT or similar.
  • Excellent coaching, mentoring and performance management skills.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to forecast, plan and deliver against ambitious sales objectives.
  • A willingness to travel within Europe.
