About The Role

As a Junior Service Engineer, you will work from a home office and cover the UK / Ireland.

Responsibilities include:

  • In the initial 6 months you will shadow more experienced engineers on customer sites across the UK & Ireland with 20% of your time supporting customers in Europe.
  • Due to the complex nature of the equipment and the potential travel time, you will typically attend 1-2-customer sites per week. Any travel is conducted Mon-Fri and therefore doesn’t encroach onto the weekends.
  • Visiting customers to complete new equipment installations, commissioning and user training. Some of the more advanced equipment can take up to 2 days to complete an installation and also 2 days for planned preventative maintenance.
  • Conducting routine service and calibration work, alongside more reactive maintenance, including fault finding and problem resolution.
  • Visiting an equal mix of both industry and academia clients (universities).
  • Liaising with customers directly to schedule the service visit.
  • Decommissioning equipment for site relocations.
  • Working on equipment including both hardware and software ranging from £60K to £1m in value.
  • Completing service visit reports.
  • Handling service tickets, gaining the equipment log file and using TeamViewer where possible to gain remote access to their equipment.
  • If on the rare occasion you can’t resolve the issue on customer site, you will organise for the equipment to be sent to my clients’ service centre and attend for further investigation.

About You

The successful candidate will possess a minimum degree level education in Physics, Engineering, Electronics or possibly Chemistry. A Masters or PhD would also be considered.

It would be highly advantageous should you possess knowledge, education or employment experience which involved maintaining, supporting or using scientific instruments, particularly Xray or Fluorescence-based technology. (If this experience exists, please ensure it is clearly identified on your CV).

Personal characteristics needed include the ability to manage your own time, attention to detail, rapport building skills, approachability and the ability to explain technical elements in simple terms.

It is essential you have a logical and methodical approach to finding faults, an open communication style, and be comfortable spending on average 2-3 nights per week away from home.

A UK driving license is needed, as is the rights to work in the UK. My client doesn’t offer sponsorship.
