Technical Sales Manager – Sensors

The Brief

A global manufacturer of precision sensors and measurement systems contacted us to recruit a Technical Sales Manager to support customers across the Netherlands. The business was experiencing strong growth but struggled to attract candidates who could combine deep sensor and instrumentation knowledge with proven technical sales leadership. Internal recruitment efforts produced candidates from general electronics backgrounds, but few had the commercial capability or credibility to manage key accounts and drive sales performance. With multiple customer projects underway, the client needed a technically credible sales leader who could take ownership of the territory and deliver results quickly.

The Process

We held a detailed consultation with the European Sales Director to define the scope of the role, which included managing strategic customer relationships, providing technical sales support, leading product demonstrations, and supporting specification-driven sales of advanced sensor and measurement solutions. The ideal candidate required a strong background in electronics, mechatronics, or instrumentation, along with experience managing technical sales cycles and influencing customer decision-making. Fluency in both Dutch and English was essential.

Our headhunt focused on technical sales managers and senior technical sales engineers already selling sensors, test and measurement, or automation solutions within the Netherlands. We targeted professionals from OEMs and system integrators with experience managing industrial, R&D, and manufacturing accounts. Each candidate was assessed on technical knowledge, commercial strategy, account management capability, and their ability to operate autonomously across the region.

Within 10 working days, we presented a shortlist of three highly relevant candidates, all capable of managing technical sales activity and developing customer relationships independently.

The Result

The client successfully appointed a Technical Sales Manager with over five years’ experience selling sensor and measurement systems into industrial and laboratory environments. The successful candidate’s blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and consultative sales approach allowed them to make an immediate impact, strengthening key accounts and increasing sales pipeline activity. The recruitment process, from initial briefing to offer acceptance, was completed in just 19 working days, ensuring continuity across customer projects and sales momentum.
