The Brief
We were contacted by a specialist valve manufacturer who needed to recruit a Field Service Engineer to cover the UK. The business had attempted to recruit directly but struggled to generate applications from individuals with the right blend of technical skills and field-based experience. With time pressing and the position critical to their service delivery, they engaged us through our Retingency model.
The Process
We held an in-depth call with the hiring manager and operations director to define the scope of the role, the technical requirements, and the type of personality that would succeed in their team. It became clear that finding someone with strong diagnostic skills, experience working on industrial sites, and the ability to travel across the UK at short notice would be key.
We developed a proactive headhunting strategy targeting engineers working for direct competitors and within adjacent industries such as pumps, compressors and flow control systems. Alongside this, we ran a carefully tailored advertising campaign to draw in passive talent.
The role required a certain level of independence and self-management, so we took care to assess candidates not just on technical ability but on mindset and reliability. Within 5 working days, we submitted a shortlist of strong candidates who met both the technical and cultural brief.
The Result
The client successfully hired a skilled engineer with extensive valve and instrumentation experience. The full process, from kick-off to offer, was completed in just 12 working days. The client was particularly impressed by the speed and relevance of the shortlist compared to their own recruitment efforts.
What the Client had to Say
“Mase Consulting quickly understood exactly what we needed and wasted no time in delivering it. Every candidate they put forward was relevant and well-prepared. It was refreshing to work with a recruitment partner who actually understood the engineering behind the role and could represent our business professionally.”
