The Brief
A manufacturer of embedded computing systems and power supplies approached us to recruit a Field Application Engineer for the DACH region. Previous recruitment efforts had failed to produce candidates who combined hands-on technical knowledge with the ability to support customers directly in the field. This role required someone who could work closely with both engineering teams and end customers, providing design-in support and troubleshooting expertise. With several key clients entering design and prototyping stages, the hire had become a business-critical priority, as delays in securing the right individual could have directly impacted project delivery schedules and customer satisfaction levels.
The Process
We held a detailed call with the European FAE Manager to define the exact technical scope of the role and understand the client’s expectations in terms of experience, skill set, and personality fit. It was clear the ideal candidate needed proven experience with DC/DC converters, embedded platforms, and delivering on-site customer support in complex, high-stakes environments. We targeted engineers already working in embedded electronics and power integration positions, prioritising those with fluent German language skills and a strong track record in field-based customer engagement.
A proactive headhunt was undertaken, supported by targeted outreach to relevant industry contacts and networks. Each candidate underwent an in-depth interview where we assessed their technical capabilities, problem-solving approach, and ability to translate engineering concepts into practical customer solutions. This process allowed us to refine the shortlist to three highly suitable professionals, all capable of making an immediate contribution to the role.
The Result
The client hired a multilingual FAE with extensive experience supporting OEM customers on embedded and power-based projects, covering both pre-sales and post-sales technical support. The successful candidate brought a blend of technical depth, communication skills, and regional market knowledge, allowing them to quickly integrate into the role and begin supporting key projects. The full recruitment process, from initial briefing to offer acceptance, was completed in just four weeks, ensuring the client avoided delays to ongoing design and prototyping work.
What the Client had to Say
“Mase delivered exactly what we needed — someone who could speak the customer’s language, both technically and culturally. A very professional and focused service.”
